Starting June 16, BC Ferries is making adjustments to the Saltery Bay to Earls Cove and Westview to Little River sailings.

According to a media release from BC Ferries, the publicly owned company is adjusting the schedule on the Sechelt Peninsula (Earls Cove)-Powell River (Saltery Bay) route, with the daily 4:35 pm sailing from Earls Cove and 5:30 pm from Saltery Bay being removed as of June 16.

BC Ferries is also adjusting the schedule on the Powell River (Westview)-Comox (Little River) route. The Saturday 3:25 pm sailing from Little River and 5:15 pm sailing from Westview have been removed as of June 16.

The 3:25 pm sailing from Little River and 5:15 pm sailing from Westview on Wednesdays have been removed on June 17 and 24, and then will be reinstated on Wednesdays for the summer from July 1 to September 7. The last sailing from Comox on those days will be earlier at 6:50 pm. For full schedule details, including additional changes to sailing times after July 1, go to bcferries.com.

According to the media release, traffic across all of BC Ferries’ routes is down significantly due to COVID-19. Minor adjustments to schedules on some inter-island routes are being implemented to maintain minimum core service levels as outlined in the coastal ferry services contract with the province of BC.

The release stated that additional sailings added to address peak travel demand in prior years will not be scheduled this year. The release also stated that BC Ferries has been working closely with ferry advisory committees to make sure these changes have the least possible impact on ferry-dependent communities.

The release stated that BC Ferries’ priority is the health and safety of its customers and employees, and the company will strictly adhere to provincial and federal guidelines. The company is following the directives and guidance provided by the province of BC and Transport Canada in making changes to its services.

“We thank our customers for their patience and understanding during these extraordinary circumstances,” the release stated.
