At the qathet Regional District regional board meeting on December 20, 2023, the board approved a budget amendment to adjust the Northside fire protection service capital plan to anticipate the replacement of one fire engine in 2025, at an anticipated cost of $735,000, including provincial sales tax, build inspection and delivery.

The board approved borrowing of up to $150,000 from the Municipal Finance Authority of BC for the replacement of a fire engine for the Northside volunteer fire protection service. The loan will be repaid in five years.

New equipment
A budget amendment was approved to adjust the Savary Island fire protection service capital plan to anticipate replacement of one fire engine in 2025, at an anticipated cost of $600,000, including provincial sales tax, build inspection and delivery.

Conducting assessment
The regional board has authorized an assessment to be done on the Texada Island Community Hall and seniors’ centre buildings in terms of estimating the costs of repair versus replacement, that the board direct staff to investigate grant possibilities for funding the assessment, and that the board put $20,000 in the Texada Island Recreation Commission budget toward a proposed assessment to ensure completion if no grants are available.
