To the graduating class of 2023, I’d like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and every one of you on the completion of this academic year. This is a momentous occasion that marks years of hard work, dedication and perseverance. I hope all of you are immensely proud of your accomplishments.

I know that navigating your classes, friendships and life so far came with its challenges, but you have succeeded, and I hope you’ve also learned some things about yourself that can help guide you in the future, such as what you value and hold dear, and what you can achieve.

I also want to share my appreciation for all the people who supported you during your education. I recognize the joy, pride, and love we feel as our children move into new chapters of their lives.

As you find your way in our community and in our world, I hope you enjoy this time and are excited and optimistic about what awaits you.

As you step into the future, I share with you the words of Rosemary Brown, Canada’s first black female MLA, who said: “We must open the doors and we must see to it they remain open, so that others can pass through.”

I wish you well on all the doors you walk through. Congratulations!
