Student life: Back to the grind

After a long break, I hope everyone is well rested and feeling prepared for the next two and half months of school. If you are currently in high school, you know we will be having quite the busy and stressful month.

After a long break, I hope everyone is well rested and feeling prepared for the next two and half months of school. If you are currently in high school, you know we will be having quite the busy and stressful month.

The first couple of weeks back can be very overwhelming as classes have to keep up the pace and the ball rolling with assignments. All those days spent sleeping in during the break tend to get back at us, and when the alarm goes off in the morning it is quite the rude awakening.

When we come back from our time off, we are unfortunately bombarded with work from two weeks before and classes start just as if we had never left. It is stressful when teachers expect us to have had the time, not to mention the motivation, to do assignments over the break.

Not only do we have to worry about getting the work done, but in many circumstances teachers do not give us a solid due date. It is much easier to keep our priorities straight when our instructions are clear.

We should ease into our classes and make the first few days a little less overwhelming. It is hard to organize your thoughts when everything is thrown at you all at once, before you have even had the chance to wake up.

As I mentioned in my last article, a break is a time to take a step back and relax away from school. For those who had a chance to sleep in and take lots of naps, you will understand the feeling of returning to school in a haze.

The best we can do with this stressful few weeks is to stay positive and go with the flow of things. It is best in stressful situations to merely take it as it comes and try to deal with it in small and controlled amounts.

If we want to get back into the swing of things, we should take it slow. We should not let the wave of homework get the best of us, and just breathe.
