School District 47 has hired a project manager for the Grief Point Elementary School replacement.

Steve Hopkins, district secretary-treasurer, reported to the board of education that Doug Hibbins, Trillium Business Strategies Inc., from Victoria, is lead project manager for the Grief Point school project.

“We have accomplished what we’d hoped to in that we hired on a project manager early in September,” Hopkins said. “We’ve met twice. They are doing some market sounding work around the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island so they can make a recommendation about what kind of procurement method we can proceed with.

“The second part is we just met recently with the people with the capital planning branch of the government so we can discuss the board’s Neighbourhood of Learning proposal and we don’t have any official word, but the presentation we gave was well received...So as far as the next steps, we are working through contractual matters with the government and hope during the late fall to get a design team in place to get moving with groundbreaking and that kind of thing.”
